Cologne Cathedral, Cologne

The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Mary occupies an area high up on a hill in the German city of Cologne. It impresses with its unrivalled magnificence. Its traditional Gothic style features intricate lace towers in stone, imposing columns and a sumptuous pilaster.

The sumptuous architectural composition is shaped like a Latin cross, when viewed from a bird’s eye view. Inside, the cathedral is no less fantastic. It is decorated with various figures of saints and wide walls. Original gilded mosaics can be seen on the floor. The main treasure of the cathedral is the oak cross. It shows how the crucifixion of Christ took place.

Neuschwanstein Castle, Bavaria

Looking at the sumptuous structure sprawled out in the Bavarian Alps, the spirit is mesmerizing. Some people associate Neuschwanstein with toys, others compare it to the domain of Dracula. But the ivory towers are really impressive. The mountain backdrop, slopes and forest greenery make the castle look like the location of famous fairy tales.

It was built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria. Work started in 1869. The design of the castle was inspired by the monarch’s romantic and fantastical dreams, based on local mythology. The master bedroom is in the Neo-Gothic style, with carved decoration and high relief. But it is not the only room you should visit in the castle.
